Nov 8, 2008 is an auspicious day for business so it seems. It represents the number 118 (yat yat fatt in Cantonese) which means everyday wealthy. So Saturday morning I’d to get up early to attend not 1 but 2 opening ceremonies.

One was an ex-colleague of mine, Ong Huey Min. She started nutrition cum anti-fat business in SS14 Subang Jaya. I reached her shop around 11 a.m. and by the time I was so packed that I went to chat with my other ex-colleagues. I met most of my ex-colleagues from Galaxy at the event. For those who wanna be healthy and slim, I can introduce you to Min. I’m sure she will give you some discounts.

Next was DNA restaurant. Jason SMS me a week earlier inviting me to attend the opening of their restaurant. At first I was stunned as their business usually revolves around cybercafes. I attended the function with Alvyn. When we got there, the place was already crowded with people. Alvyn and I sat and had some drinks. Jason came over and chat a while as he was pretty busy trying to accommodate everyone.

At about 4 p.m. the lion dance begun. The dance around the restaurant ushering good luck and then they ran across the streets into DNA Cybercafe. Some of the customers freak out when the saw the lion popping out beside them (the customers were wearing head phones). Ha ha ha … When it ended, we had a good chat with some friends, game publishers and distributors before heading home for Man Utd vs Arsenal which was an upset match. T-T

Congratulations to Min & Jason!

Hope your business blooms like a flower!!

The Crazy Crew from TGIF. Thanks you ^-^

I celebrated my Dad’s birthday at TGIF, Sunway Pyramid with my family and Hau as an invited guest. We had a scrumptious dinner. The reason why I choose the place was because my dad loves to eat steak and TGIF was not a bad place with steaks.

After our dinner, I asked a favor from the TGIF crew. The paraded from the kitchen with a birthday cake (mini one) singing along till they reach my table. They then interview my dad and asked him to stand on the sofa to become the center of attraction, as it was his birthday celebration. They then pass him chili bottle and asked him to pretend that it was a cordless mic and sing a song.

In order to get back at the crew, my dad sang a song in Hakka language with noneof them understands The crew was not Chinese and they look stunned but they enjoyed it I think. Later they asked my dad to blow the candle on the cake at a distance about 1 meter. We took some photos and we head home.

Hope he enjoyed it as I paid quite a sum for the dinner. Happy Birthday Dad!!

With Love from your son ^-^

Wanna manage some high profile players and proof your managerial skills against other well known managers? This Football Manager Handheld 2008 is updated with all the players intact during the last transfer window. It will be slightly outdated coming this January when the transfer window reopens. Maybe they will provide a patch to update it.

The layout is simple and easy to play. It is also tuned to the reality of the clubs. Manchester City really has a fortune to spend on players and even clubs like Liverpool are being outbid. Players will voice their frustration from time to time as being left out of the squad or the bench. Even reserves are unhappy when they are being sent on loan to other clubs. Sometimes even the media like newspapers or the radio station will voice their frustration over the performance of the players.

Players asking for transfers, extension of contract and pressure from the board is nothing to you, then try out this game. Lots of formation to try out, your selection of the squad will win or cost you the game. Upset players come to training with a bad mood and there are even players who perform under par on the pitch.

As for my experience managing Manchester United, guess what, I got sacked towards the season ending in 2008 despite doing very well with 2 cups in hand. The reason I got sacked was maybe losing to Arsenal that beaten my team 1-0 in the finals. As for now, I am managing an unknown Scottish club. You think you got what it takes to manage a club. Think again!

Wanna fool around as a monkey? You start the game as a monkey in an Academy with some basic tutorial to warm your fingers with the keys. This game is a series of mini games which gets harder depending on the level of your academy. You graduate by winning the mini games in a form of tic-tac-toe. The number of lines will depend on the level of your academy.

In certain mini games, you will have a chance to gain throphies (known as figurine inside the game). You have a showcase which displays all the trophies that you have collected and it has a rarity rate too. You gain trophies by gaining hidden coins behind the tic-tac-toe, inside mini games or by challenging and winning your friends. You’ll also be rewarded if you completed the tic-tac-toe in perfect mode. There are lots of trophies to collect with different actions and expressions.

If you are challenging a friend, choose the trophy which you have extra. If you select a trophy with no spares and you lose the challenge, it will be gone from your showcase. However, your friend needs to guess the correct capsule which you hid the trophy. The only setback is that it has limited games on wireless mode, otherwise the game will be here to stay!

It’s not easy to complete but it is fun to play. Sometimes you’ll get frustrated like me if you are trying to collect the trophies but you get the same old one all over again. This game will relax your mind at times of need and maybe provide you some laughter too if you are challenging your friend.

Are you game enuf or you’re a monkey brainer?

Fancy some volleys or smashes? Portraying your favorite player and work through the academy and ranking to become the world No 1! You will be given a list of superstars to select or becoming your partners for training or tournaments.  You will have a wide range or players like Roger Federal, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova and etc.

You begin the game at ranking 300 in the world and basic skills at level 1. You will train your skills at the academy or improve your skills by enduring in the special skill training created for you. Skills are max at level 30. You can participate in tournaments which are around your world ranking. Make sure you do not miss out due to participation in training. Remember to relax and not overdo yourself in training or tournaments. You can participate in singles, doubles or mixed doubles tournament at your discretion.

You will also gain sponsorships by winning tournaments. The sponsors will give you gifts such as rackets and sports attire. You can only gain better rackets from your sponsors which will give you a better control returning the volley. At some point of time, you will be recognized as a capable tennis player. This is when other players will invite you for practices. You will have the choice to join or ignore their invitation.

The practices will look like mini games to you. Tournaments will be in a form of tennis matches. Academies are test which consist of a specific goal to achieve within a limited time given. Lots of variety makes this game very interesting but the game has no ends which means you can continue on and on.

At the end of the year, there will be a tournament of the champions. If I’m not mistaken, it should be somewhere in November or December. You can only participate in this tournament, if you are rank no 1 (not too sure about rank no 2). I’ll see you there at the Tournament of the Champions, till then try beating me at the courts! Adios amigo.

Interested in owning a bakery? This game is originally a PC Game. The game begins with you at your gramps’ cake shop but the shop got bought over. Feeling sad and with full determination, you decided to open a small bakery to compete with others with the aim to regain back your gramp’s bakery before it’s too late.

You start with a tutorial on how to bake cakes and the types of flavoring. After completing each stage, you will gain some money to refurbish your shop by upgrading your equipments. You can also add some decorations onto your cakes to increase the value of the cakes.

The game consists of 48 stages. Each stage consists of 12 challenges beginning from January to December. Each month has a celebration like Valentines in February or Christmas in December. It also has a different goal and it gets harder each month. Try to understand your customer’s characteristics as it will help you achieve your goals easily or receive more tips. Characteristics such as Dracula will chase your customers away, school kids have short patient and loves the decoration which looks like an octopus (forget the actual name but this rakes in a lot of money) or granny which you can delay a little longer.

This is a casual game. Overall it looks like a lame game but it gives you some fun time if you have a little time to kill. The level of joy you get from the game will depend as each person’s interest is different. Have fun baking!!

This is definitely old skool!! It reminds me when I was a kid playing it on my Atari! Well, this is slightly modified to become more challenging and blending in to our era.

Like most space invaders, you are the protector of the universe with your spaceship warding off evil aliens. Aliens come in batches and if one batch is wipe out, out come another batch. After wiping out the normal aliens, you’ll encounter the boss of the area before moving to the next stage. While destroying invading aliens, you will notice UFO in various colors passing by. Destroy them to obtain bonuses such as extra life, fever mode, bonus points and etc…

When you destroy 5 or more aliens of the same species (same color), you will receive the weapon bonus of the same species. Blue aliens drops blue laser beam, Red aliens drops red bombs while green aliens’ weapons are multi bullets. While you keep killing aliens, you will be chaining ‘em and you will receive extra points. There is a time period in between each chain before it breaks.

Fever mode is when you are given special mission. Complete it and you’ll enter into fever mode. During fever mode, you will have unlimited special weapon till the fever mode is out. This is the best time to clear most of the aliens before encountering the boss. Fever mode will also determine your grade after completing each stage. Without fever mode, you’ll receive minimal points only and a lousy grading. After completing the Arcade mode, you’ll unlock the extreme mode.

Nonstop action from the start. Although it looks childish, once you play it you’ll get hooked to it. It is easy to play and the excitement will keep you going on and on. The only set back to the game is that the background may confuse and make you dizzy. It’s supposed to be in space anyway so I guess they made it that way purposely! Aliens busting anyone?

Dunno why but I’m into casual games recently maybe due to the lack of time. This is a fun game but it’s kinda hard to play if you have large hands like me with a tiny analog. This game has been around for some time and it was taken of a PC game if I’m not wrong.

In story mode, there are 6 levels (Stages). Each level has 5 rounds where every 5th round is the level’s boss. You only have a cute little spacecraft that shoots normal bullets. Bullets are available when there are a set of planes orange in color come dashing across the screen. Kill ‘em all in order to get your special bullets.

The stars represent the special bullets. Yellow star shoots straight with 2 x 45 degrees diagonal shot. Blue star is super fast bullets (I prefer this most of the time). Green star shoots out a curve shape like a Big C that can fend of bullets. Red Star shoots out rockets but it is extremely slow in my opinion but useful against bosses. There is also a Turquoise star which is an electric beam (as shown in the picture above) which is only available on the last level.

Sometimes in the game, you will encounter balloons with little packages tied to them. Try not to burst the balloons but shoot the packages. You will receive some special bonuses like 2 times multiplier (scores) or the mini space ship that are attached to you which shoots out more bullets.

If I’m not mistaken, you will receive a free spaceship (kinda like 1UP) for every 20, 000 points you get. You’ll definitely receive a credit (chance to continue the game) after completing each level. It has an auto save feature where it auto saves for you after achieving new milestones.

The bullets and enemies come from all angles! There are even stones that rain from sky in Level 5-2 which frustrates me a lot. After completing the story mode, you can try survival mode. Try to survive as long as you can without exploding if haven’t had enough of the game! Give it a try, its fun and exciting.

Need something new and refreshing? This might be your game. A series of questions which can stimulate your brains and reflexes as your grade depends on it.

You start the game by providing your information such as birth date and age. Then you will be brief about the game with a simple tutorial. After that you will undergo a test with will determine if your brain is refresh, par or overage. This might be inaccurate but can be used as a simple measurement, believe it or not. The test can only be done once per day.

You can take a series of brain challenges and it gets harder by conquering the questions around the world. After completing the series of questions, you will be awarded a trophy plaque based on your results. The series of questions are based on simple math, colors, reflexes and general logics of shapes.

Not a bad game but lack of variety. It really tests your brain and you will be mentally tired (I might be wrong as I completed the challenge when I was lacking of sleep the previous day). So when you need to loosen up or need a kick start, this game may suit you.

Movie Age Rating November 4, 2008

Have you ever come across how absurd is our cinema’s rating, this applies to Malaysia only as I don’t know about the rating in other countries. The reason behind this article is because I went to the movies with Alvyn yesterday but 90% of the movie are rated 18 years and above. We wanted to watch Eagle Eye but we arrived late and the tickets were sold out. So we opted for the next available movie which was “The Vampire Who Admires Me”. I was watching plenty of vampire movies when I was a kid and it wasn’t censored nor does it have any age rating. Judging by the name of the movie it looks more like a comedy then horror movie. Yet the movie is 18PL rated. We ended up watching Mama Mia which was enjoyable but a little too matured for Alvyn’s age to be watching these types of movies.

I was thinking then soon all the kids in Malaysia will be staying home instead of heading to the cinemas. Our censorship board has been ridiculous at times and I don’t mind that they ban movies like Saw V but the ratings given by them are driving people crazing. Kids not only are barred from watching movies but the movie is also being snipped here and there. What fun is there when all the best part (so called) are being removed? This is why our pirated VCD / DVDs are selling so damn well!

Anyway, ASTRO will also be offering the movies at a later time at HBO. Kids will get to watch them too regardless of the ratings. People at the censorship board have to be more logical at times. Most of the movies do not have sex scenes or does the violence scenes are too excessive at times. Labeling movies with a little kissing 18SX or a little horror in a comedy movie as 18PL is way too crazy.

Did the censorship board think about the elderly too? What is suddenly they laugh too much and the horror scene appears suddenly and the audience died. Isn’t the movie suppose to contain regulations like not for the weak hearted, pregnant women and etc. The funniest is that an Indian movie is also 13 rated. Localized movie is already slow in ticket sales and generate very little income from the people and yet it is being labeled with ratings instead of U (Universal). The censorship board should also start banning animated cartoons too. Madagascar movies show signs of cruelty to animals and most of it contains violence in cartoon form. Kids learn quickly and those are bad for their minds too. Mickey Mouse should be the preferred choice!

I think I’ve rant enough and you gradually get my points. Well, I guess that they’ll not change the procedure. Kids have to grow faster and wait till their 18 for their freedom of movies still with censorship!
